Sacred Caves under the Blue Minoan Moon
March 30 - April 1 2018
Crete Island, Greece
Crete is the cosmic crossroads of creation. Over five million years ago, humans crawled out of the sacred cave, womb of Gaia the earth mother. They descended from the Holy Mountain toward the sea and gazed across the primordial waters. They left footprints on the beach that eventually fossilized to become a reminder of where we all come from. Over 130,000 years ago, they learned to build boats, chart their course and navigate the seas. They became the first astronomers-astrologers, using the planets and stars to guide them on their journeys to discovery.
We will journey back in time and return to the shores of sacred Crete, the land of our most ancient ancestors. Following in their footsteps, we will climb the Holy Mountain and crawl back into the womb of our Earth Mother. We will descend into the depths of the sacred caves on a journey of self-discovery.
Crete has more than 3,500 caves. Of these, only 35 are known to have been used for spiritual activities. These sanctuaries carry the combined energy of the many pilgrims who over thousands of years journeyed to these holy places, leaving their prayers and sacrificial offerings. Entering the cave symbolizes the darkness of slumber and death. Emerging from the cave symbolizes the brilliant light of awakening and rebirth. Caves represent an access to the underworld, the original labyrinths. We navigate the maze of our subterranean subconscious to discover our own personal truths.
Orion, the great hunter, journeyed to Crete and spent his time hunting in company of the Goddess Artemis. Orion bragged that he would hunt down and kill all the beasts of the earth. Deeply disturbed by what he intended, Artemis went to the cave of the Earth Mother and told her of Orion's plans. Gaia was furious with Orion and sent Scorpius, a giant scorpion to destroy him.
For days Orion and Scorpius battled across the Cretan landscape. Evenly matched, they finally killed each other under the blue Minoan moon. Afterwards, Zeus placed them both amongst the stars as opposing constellations, one rises as the other sets. This year, as Jupiter transits through Scorpio, while Orion looks down upon them, is an astrologically auspicious time to be in Crete!
Come join us as we go back to our collective ancestral home. Together we will journey on a pilgrimage through the labyrinth of the past to reveal our path towards the future.
Friday, March 30th
Our workshop will take place at a fabulous luxury Eco-resort that is 20 minutes from the Heraklion airport and close to the various sites we will be visiting. You will enjoy a wide variety of leisure facilities on the resort’s large property, including three pools (one indoor), a wellness center, a kids club as well as numerous dining and entertainment venues. We will officially begin Friday evening, but participants are welcome to come earlier to enjoy the resort’s facilities and mingle with others from our group.
Friday evening: We begin with registration and a meet and greet accompanied with local wine and snacks. After, we will have an opening circle. Anna will then host a Katharsis sound and harmony ceremony using gongs, bowls and cymbals. The night owls can then enjoy a beach bonfire with mythological campfire stories and star gazing.
Saturday, March 31st
Saturday morning: Participants will enjoy a delicious breakfast, with lots of vegetarian options at the hotel followed by the Kourites Kundalini Workshop with Anna. The class combines Osho’s dynamic activation of Kundalini with the Cretan sacred dance of the Kourites. It is both theoretical and experiential. No special abilities required, only the intention to move and dance (approximately 2 hours).
Saturday Afternoon: After lunch we will be joined by Kaypacha and his wife Laura, and visit the Cave of the dark Goddess, one of the largest and most impressive among the many caves found in Crete. From prehistoric to Roman times the cave was an important sacred shrine dedicated to several incarnations of the fertility Goddess. Many believe the cave to be the location of the legendary Labyrinth of the Minotaur.
We will partake in a purification ceremony inside this ancient cave sanctuary. These rites offer the occasion to purge ourselves of the resentments, fears and past regrets that hold us back from reaching our full potential. This is an opportunity to emerge from the cave cleansed and reborn. Following the purification ceremony, Anna will host a Sound and Harmony ceremony. The sacred sounds produce vibrations identical to those of the Universe as well as those of the female womb. The natural cave environment, moist and dark, is the ideal place for this ceremony, the Initiation into the Universal Harmony, a Ritual of Rebirth.
Saturday evening: After supper, Kaypacha will discuss the astrological transits of 2018. Afterwards, we will enjoy the various facilities at the resort or a bonfire on the beach with astrological campfire stories under the full blue Minoan moon.
Sunday, April 1st
Sunday morning: First thing in the morning participants will enjoy an invigorating Kundalini yoga session with Kaypacha, followed by breakfast at the hotel. Then the group will visit the Palace of Malia, the third largest Minoan palace ever constructed. Built over 4,000 years ago on the shores of the Sea of Crete by the powerful Minoan elite.
Sunday afternoon: We will travel up the Lasithi Mountains to the legendary Lasithi plateau. The plateau is famous for its unique white-sailed windmills to irrigate the land. The fertile soil of the plateau attracted agricultural settlements and has been continuously inhabited since pre-Neolithic times.
Our first stop will be Diktaion Cave, also called the cave of Zeus. This is where the Goddess Rhea gave birth to Zeus. The cave was a sacred sanctuary long before the worship of Zeus. For over four millennia Pilgrims of the mystery cults dedicated offerings at the altar deep inside the cave.
This is the most influential cult site of Minoan Crete. The cave was continually used as a sanctuary well into Roman times. The cave is one of the most important prehistoric Greek archaeological sites. With its stunning colored stalagmites and stalactites, this is one of the most beautiful and impressive caves in Greece.
We will enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before visiting Trapeza Cave, also called the cave of Cronos. This was a sanctuary of Crete's earliest peoples as well as the world's oldest cultures. Even early Egyptians came here to worship and leave offerings. The chthonic cave nurturing the roots of civilization.
Inside the cave participants will partake in a group cave meditation. Afterwards, the group will have a closing circle before enjoying a final meal together. Supper will be in a Lasithi restaurant with a stunning view of mountains and sea accompanied by live traditional Cretan music.
Sunday Evening: We wi enjoy a pleasant evening together in discussion. We will also be sampling some of the fantastic local wine made from some of the world's most ancient grape varieties.
