..and why you should stop arguing about it.
Every so often someone will [attempt] to argue with me about the invalidity of western (or tropical) astrology. Usually I just bow out because I have zero interest in proving the validity of anything. But I want to share something and I hope this post can serve as a sort of evergreen reference point.
If you think one astrology system is valid and the other one’s aren’t… take a BIG step back. Do you even know how the heck this stuff works in the first place?
So the cosmos reflect inner reality and we are timeless soul beings on a journey of self remembering – all of which is reflected in the celestial positions at the time, location of brith … are any of us so expanded and wise as to directly perceive the brilliant intelligence of Creator/Source/Cosmic blueprint of all-that-is-ness that you totally get “how” this stuff works and can thus say “there’s only one correct system for mapping and interpreting this profoundly brilliant cosmic correlation”.
I don’t believe in astrology, I simply observe it’s reality and practice it. I use it to help others and find that it’s just a part of reality. Do I pretend to understand the greater mystery of all that is? Hardly. It’s something I get to understand at deeper and deeper levels. My understanding of astrology expands as my self knowledge expands. I don’t pretend to know even a grain of sand of reality. The more I grow the more I realize that I don’t even know about the things that I don’t know about.
But what many people who think they know what’s true and what’s not true are essentially saying is “I believe that this method of tracking something I know absolutely nothing about, is entirely beyond me and honestly I am lightyears from ever mastering is nevertheless the only correct method. I believe the other method it not is a valid method even though it’s been practiced and used to good measure by countless teachers and elders before me who have attained deeper realization of reality than myself. Nevertheless it doesn’t fit the logical constructs I have in my mind as to what should make sense so I’m going to discount it. On the other hand this other system that fits my own logic feels sensible to me and so I will dub it as the only correct system, even though I really don’t know how its real to begin with and am still in general ignorance regarding my true nature”.
This is a nice perspective for softening any existing views we have on the various systems of astrology and their comparative validity or lack thereof just as much as it’s a great thing to remember when it comes to our opinion on anything we actually don’t really understand.
One of the humbling things that astrology and reality in general offers us is that it doesn’t explain how it works – but it works, it is. Consistently so – and so we can always study it, observe it, find ways to work with it, communicate about it, apply it. Nevertheless even the greatest masters of the cosmic arts probably did not get too far beyond “Wait this stuff is actually real? Whoa.”
