Full Moon 23º Cancer Jan 13, 2025

〰️ Surrender to that which is, and do not judge the moment 〰️

This is a feisty full moon if there ever was one. It is pulling in Mars retrograde that currently resides on 27°07 Cancer, so it promises to be quite an intense full moon. And the world reflects this intensity as well. It’s like a news relay where one thing just follows the other, and they are all equally important and pressing. Factoring in Mars, which is currently OOB (out of bounds), and considering Neptune is now glued to the North Node, we might assume that this lunation is both wild and chaotic. And somehow, we are all in it. Neptune is the ocean of emotion through which we are all connected, so we will all feel this one. Even the hardcore skeptics will go, «What’s the frack is happening?»

In our personal lives, this energy can translate into a constant flux of things that need attending, and the whole world situation can cause us personal stress as it is there, lurking underneath it all. And because this is such a sensitive full moon, even those who never read the news will notice that the collective energy is slightly stressed out. It can be hard to catch a good night’s sleep under such planetary alignments, but it doesn’t mean that it is impossible. The Sun is, after all, in Capricorn, and if anything, Capricorn is renowned for its capacity to discipline the mind, the body, and the emotions. Saturn, the ruler of Capricorn, has boundaries, and in the midst of everything, we might find ourselves bravely taking charge of our own minds and lives, steering this powerful energy into something useful and creative.

The ruler of Capricorn, Saturn, is currently in Pisces, along with the North Node, Neptune and Venus. So there is a party going on over in Pisces, and whether or not this helps ground the energy is doubtful, but it will certainly make us humble, and we might be left with only one option: To surrender to that which is and not judge the moment.

The Sabian Symbol for the Full Moon «A woman and two men castaways on a small island of the south seas» is a rather odd symbol, but metaphorically it tells a story of choosing. And of being able to harmonize the feminine and the masculine within. Quite literally, it can be about being entangled in a love triangle or involved in teamwork and cooperation, which offers some sort of challenge. More symbolically, it mirrors a deep need to harmonize the mind with the emotions. And then to spirit.

There will also be a balsamic conjunction between Saturn and Venus in Pisces from now and until the new phase starting on the 18th at 16°05 Pisces. And with all balsamic conjunctions, we are letting go of something that has outlived its purpose. Saturn and Venus are all about sustainability and being realistic enough to see whether or not our relationships are just that. It has to be worth our time, it has to be founded in mutual respect, and there needs to be a level of shared values at the foundation of any long-lasting relationship, whether it is professional, romantic, friendship, or familial. Our ambitions also need to be grounded in reality, and with both Mars and the Full Moon in Cancer, we are being called to look within and ground our decisions in our own needs and not just indulge in the comfort of standing still, accepting something that is not good enough, nor healthy.

Maybe we find ourselves in a situation where it is quite frankly impossible to make a choice and commit to one path. If the two men in the Sabian Symbol represent duality and options, the woman is the one having to make the choice. And as the woman represents the feminine, the ability to listen to the emotions is what will help us move forward on our path.

This Full Moon is pretty unpredictable, so anything can happen, and that’s not to say that the worst-case scenario will pop open like Pandora’s box. It can just mean that we will be emotionally off balance and that we need to work on ourselves in order to find that balance again.

Cancer seeks security and safety, and with Mars retrograde through the sign, this very foundation might be shaken, but the evolutionary intention of Mars in Cancer is to look within to find safety and not depend too much on circumstance. And the Full Moon highlights this lesson. Mental health is being able to regulate yourself and develop discipline enough to be able to not think too much about what is going on. Mental health is about feeling safe. So the mind and the emotions are deeply entangled. Therefore, meet yourself in an honest way, share your emotions, and be honest about your mistakes and needs. This simple act of vulnerability might be the personal breakthrough of this particular lunation. Mars is, after all, a make-or-break planet.
