A Verse For Our Times

We must eradicate from the soul
All fear and terror of what comes toward us out of the future.
We must acquire serenity
In all feelings and sensations about the future.
We must look forward with absolute equanimity
To everything that may come.
And we must think only that whatever comes
Is given to us by a world-directive full of wisdom.
It is part of what we must learn in this age.
Namely, to live out of pure trust,
Without any security in existence.
Trust in the ever-present help of the spiritual world.
Truly, nothing else will do
If our courage is not to fail us.
And let us seek the awakenings from within ourselves
Every morning and every evening.

This verse is particularly appropriate for this month as Pluto will enter Aquarius, the sign of the future, for the first time in over 200 years on March 23. He will dance back and forth on the cusp five times before completing his entry in late 2024. Almost simultaneously we have this month’s new Moon in the very first degree of Aries, indeed, the very beginning of the entire zodiac symbolizing fresh, new enterprises, relationships, and projects. With both Neptune and Saturn transiting Pisces, the last sign of the zodiac, we can see this month as harboring both endings and new beginnings.

The future is indeed upon us! With the advances of AI and all forms of technology influencing, and at times now deciding, our future course of collective action, we all feel, as the poem states, that the future is coming at us. This can give us a feeling of overwhelm, insecurity, and confusion about who we are and what our role, purpose, and function are within the greater whole of life.

The entire transhumanism movement (including the GPT: Generative Pre-trained Transformer platform now emerging), which seeks to solve our problems and improve our lives here on earth through merging our minds and bodies with machines, will be ever more visible and affecting us more and more on a daily basis as Pluto, the planet of transformation and evolution, transits Aquarius, the sign of science and technology, for the next 20 years. As he crosses this threshold from Capricorn to Aquarius, we can expect breakthroughs, as well as breakdowns, in all areas of our lives. Rather than recoil from these advances, this month’s new Moon indicates that we charge forward!

Onto this stage that is set for radical change and advancement, which will include the demolition of old structures, systems, institutions, and sources of security, marches Mars, the planet of action, out of Gemini and into the waters of Cancer (March 25). This will surely raise our insecurities and drive us toward creating stronger and deeper emotional connections, ties, and bonds while also indicating strong emotional RE-actions. The fire of Mars can make the waters of Cancer boil, resulting in a variety of expressions from jealousy, possessiveness, and revenge to protection, defense, and guardianship.

One key to successfully navigating these times is to remain centered and focused in our hearts. Our hearts and ability to love are what sets us apart from many other life forms and machines. Unfortunately, the current materialistic/capitalistic ethos in placing such importance and reliance on the mental and physical realms is in danger of losing our humanity. Let’s remember that Leo rules the heart and is the opposite balancing archetype to this upcoming Aquarian Age. It is, therefore, up to us as individuals to remain aware of the dangers of living a heartless existence (emptiness, loneliness, purposelessness, impotence, and futility, to name a few) and the love flowing!

Family matters, including spouses, intimate partners, siblings, parents, and extended family, will be a primary arena for testing and building our capacity to keep our hearts open, free of judgment, and focused on common ground, forgiveness, and compassion. Mars will continue through Cancer, wanting depth, intimacy, and connection even as the Sun, Mercury, Jupiter, and Chiron in fiery Aries seek freedom and charge full steam ahead into the new.

Supporting us in remaining centered in our hearts, loving, warm, and kind is Venus moving through her home territory of slow and steady Taurus. She will be uniting with both the north node and, later on this month, Uranus. This reflects a love for creating a new future (Uranus) with “like-hearted souls” (north node). Her presence there says great comfort and pleasure can be found right here, in our bodies, on the earth, in the woods and waters of Gaia. She takes pleasure in receiving and spending money on beautiful, life-enhancing, and stylish objects, toys, trinkets, jewelry, flowers, and more. So, let’s go forward into a wild future with our hearts open, in joy, knowing it will require some grounding and guts!
