Waning Moon at 16º Virgo 22″ Dec 8, 2020

As the last square of the Sun and the Moon is forming 16 degrees 22 minutes, the understanding of the previous New Moon is maturing. Whatever it initiated is now coming to the point of total release. The waxing square to the Moon offers an opportunity to let go, let live, and let live instead of trying to control and hold. As both the Sun and the Moon are in mutable signs, our capacity to adapt and be flexible is the one thing that will help us move smoothly through the current waves. Certain ideas and ideals that have been upheld might not be helpful at all as they rather induce suffering than set us free to actually enjoy life as it is. The question you need to ask is, “Is it realistic?” What you think you need might not be the things you actually need. Truth is what works in practical reality, and outdated ideals might get in the way of actually keeping it real.

As the Moon in Virgo reminds us to stay as pragmatic as possible, we need to focus on what lies within our control and what is beyond. Personal willpower clinches with the larger forces at play as Neptune is plugging into the Sun-Moon square, forming a T-square. Neptune reminds us of the world of invisible causes, and if we try to push our agenda, we might be sorely failing.

The contrast of surrendering control versus being responsible individuals might not always be evident. The waning square offers a certain crisis in terms of being able to discriminate between what is real and what is an illusion. When we see the truth, the path will be clear. Before that, there can be confusion. The pragmatic Moon in Virgo, setting off the last period before a New Moon, will again remind us that we need to clean the body, the mind, and the heart. This might very well take the shape of a thorough housecleaning, a day at the spa, a silent retreat from the world of events, or working on our diets—anything to cleanse. Freeing the mind to be present with the moment is the core lesson for this very spiritual lunar phase leading up to a Total Solar Eclipse on the 14th.

As Venus still have some time to go through Scorpio and will make a sextile to the Capricorn triplets, Pluto, Saturn, and Jupiter, attachments to people in our lives can be changed and released. Status redefined. It is a time to communicate with truth, both inwards and outwards, the actual experiences we have. As Mercury is in bold and brave Sagittarius, words may come out of our mouths that might surprise even ourselves. And then Venus, being well aware of vulnerabilities and attachments, might fret as the brave Fire Energy is taking a spontaneous risk.

The period begins without any planets in Air, and perspective is challenged by impulse, instinct, and passion. For someone living too much in the head, this can be a good thing, freeing up a more free-flowing, less self-conscious expression. But for someone who needs perspective, it can be too much fire and water, burning at a too hot flame, causing inflammations in relationships that could be avoided. They should cool down and work on their reactions. As the Moon now will cross into its finishing phase, compulsions might be understood at a much higher level, especially when the Moon sails through Libra. Perspective does not mean that we are not capable of living in the moment. It simply means that breathing in and out before posting, speaking, or acting is a good thing. Always consider the opposing view, but never let go of your own conviction.

Life is an odd balance act of paradoxes. As we mature in consciousness, the concept of living is getting more advanced. We are here to live both with an awakened heart and a conscious mind. The planets are now inviting us to take a chance, a leap of faith. That might be the correct perspective as we are moving into a dance of living life more authentically. Do not second-guess your feelings. Examine them with compassion and hold space for anything that arises in the moment. This offsets the shadow of the week, namely the need to escape thanks to a feeling of disempowerment and confusion.

Breathe in, breathe out. And merge with the mystery of Life.
